Aspergers Syndrome and Schizophrenia: Why were people with aspergers previously misdiagnosed as Schizophrenic?

I had a stroke and a person w/ multiple scerosis is neurologically impaired just like I am neurologically impaired w/ my stroke. So are the emotional disorders classed. I was classed incorrectly, never diagnosed but finally a therapist said that I had Asperger's but it really left a mark on my fragile psyche! (sob!)
